The three Casas siblings—a lawyer, a forestry engineer and an interior designer—run Síndar, a third-generation joinery company based in the town of Alcover.
Originally, Síndar was a traditional joinery workshop serving private clients, builders and property developers, always working locally. As Managing Director Gerard Casas explains: “Even Badalona felt a long way from home.” However, the financial and property crisis forced the company to rethink its business model and embark on an international expansion strategy, investing in consultancy services and overseas travel. “Exporting was a huge challenge because we’d never done it before, and managing the logistics while manufacturing everything in Alcover wasn’t easy,” he says.
But as the saying goes, hard work pays off. Their first international project was a luxury hotel in Morocco. From there came projects in France and Belgium, followed by one of their most ambitious commissions: the Government Building of Turkmenistan.
Word of mouth soon became their greatest asset, leading them to produce the bespoke joinery for the Emir of Qatar’s palace in Morocco. Since then, the company has completed luxury hotels and palaces across Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Over the years, the company has collaborated with internationally renowned architectural practices including Foster + Partners, Ateliers Jean Nouvel and Koichi Takada Architects.
“We specialise in complex, one-of-a-kind projects thanks to our highly skilled technical office and an exceptionally talented workshop team,” says Gerard Casas. “Today, we’re truly competitive in the luxury market, and that’s where our expertise lies.”
Today, Síndar is working on projects in the United States (the Hamptons, Miami), Andorra, Ibiza and many other locations, transporting both its specialist team and handcrafted pieces directly from its factory in Alcover through a logistics operation that is now highly refined. “Trust is essential in any business, but earning it in the luxury sector takes time because expectations are incredibly high.”
